Geocaching v1.2

Seven of us set out to Deception Falls, today, to find a cache. Cat, David, Amanda, Aaron, Sara, Josh, and LeeNy took the short loop trail, and got a lot of great photos of the Tye River on our way to the coordinates. We were pretty much over-prepared (not surprisingly, after the long, wet summer we had), and it wasn't too cold, so the light drizzle didn't bother us too much.

The Deception Falls trail definitely counts as more of a nature walk than a hike. It's open year-round, and is quite short (2 kilometers - and some of that is wheelchair-accessible), with fantastic views of the water - and if you know what you're looking for, you can see Oontzville across the river at one point.

We had the right coordinates, and checked the clue, but the cache was very elusive, even though it was right under our noses. It was well-hidden from the average hiker.

We took an LED light and a mood ring, and left a coleman lighted keychain and a picture frame, and placed the tupperware box back into its hiding place. Then we went on to finish the trail and head home.

Geocaching with the Goths v1.0

Today's geocaching adventure included Gray, Cat, Luke, Aaron, and LeeNy. We headed out with the printouts from four caches in town, and we had three under our belts before it was time to head home.

It took a little bit to get used to it, but most of the caches are fun and easy to find, and we can't wait to get out and do some remote caches, and plan some backpacking trips around them. From what I've heard, Marc17 inadvertantly found a cache near the top of Mt. St. Helens, back before we really knew what it was all about.

(There are no spoilers in this, unless you click any of the following links to see the photos - some of them may give away locations.)

Our First Geocaching Expedition!

Come back to this space after this weekend (Feb 1/2) to see the results of our first Geocaching Expedition. We're planning on going after several in-town caches to get the hang of things before we venture out into the wilderness. Stay tuned!
